This is a
personal editorial project developed by myself in 2019
My mom wanted to be a teacher when she grew up, and over the years she studied and trained as a teacher, she accumulated an entire shelf full of books and teaching materials.
One of these materials is a collection of nursery rhymes and during the holidays between the 2nd and 3rd semesters my mother asked me to make a copy of this material, but as this material was dispersed and there was no graphic project, I decided to to layout and illustrate a book, which would organize and give a visual unit, for her to teach.

Illustrations:
As it is a children's book, I opted for Chibi line illustrations with a digital painting that simulates watercolor, which in addition to giving the illustration a soft tone, emphasizes the thick contours of the illustration.
O processo de ilustrar é separado em 6 etapas, a procura por uma referência, a definição da paleta cromática a partir dessa referência, e então vem o esboço do desenho feito digitalmente.
With the shapes of the drawing previously defined, I started the finalization process, which starts with the line art one. , last but not least I come with the layer of color taking off the design from the white background.
The hand-bound book using figure 8 stitching also uses a butterfly cover which, when opened, reveals the rough cover illustration.
Graphic project:
At first, I needed to decide how big the book would be, so I started with A5 size and set the line spacing to 12pt.
With the line spacing set, I set the page size to 564 x 408 pt or 198.9 x 143.9 mm, then set the margins to 36pt around the text area.
This size is closer to the 150 x 220 mm format which has a better paper utilization than the 66 x 96 cm format which uses 1/16 of the sheet per page.
The typography family used was Futura LT, as it is a large and classic typographic family, although it is not so suitable for large masses of text because it contains a large “x” size and does not have an axis, this typographic family suited the project well. , because they are small verses and visibility ends up having a greater weight to the detriment of legibility.
